Where’s my boat?

Houseboats, Jet skis, ski boats, bass boats and even patio boats have all jumped out on the water this year, transforming our lakes from deserted fishing escapes to happening party places.  Shasta, McLure and New Melones are blossoming butterfly that has shed its former appearance and now we go into our favorite season, full-tilt.  Wake boards, water skis, tubes and sunscreen, its all looking like summer.  Here are the latest and greatest new products for your water adventures.

I had the chance to talk with a few good friends this week in the boating industry to check out what was new, what was improved and flat out, what was really cool.  Here’s a sneak peak at what your next boat looks like, what accessories to put on it, where to store and of course, where to put it in the water.

First off, my trip took me to Sunrise Boat Storage in Rancho Cordova where I had the honor of seeing one of the

most spectacular facilities on the planet.  An indoor boat and RV storage center, Sunrise has 900 storage spaces that had every make and model, every size and shape boat or RV you could think of.  6 stories of boats of all kinds, lifted to their winter homes by custom forklifts after they had been detailed and winterized by the expert staff.  Amazing.  If you have a boat and are tired of it ending up with sun damage every year, here’s a great place for your precious ‘baby.’ R.J. and his crew are experts in making sure your boat gets properly taken care of so you don’t have to.  P.S. They charge your battery before you get there so no worries about spring prep.  Nice.

Next on my tour, I checked out a couple boat dealers, one in Elk Grove, technically a PWC dealer(personal water craft).  I got a first hand look at the brand new GTX Sea Doo, the first PWC with a brake.  Yeah, if you don’t know much about jet skis, they can be a ton of fun, until you forget that they don’t stop like a car, they keep moving until you put it in reverse.

In fact, aside from reckless driving on a PWC, inexperience with the throttle and capabilities of a PWC is the biggest safety issue with a PWC.

I dropped in the Elk Grove Power Sports to check in with Scott, the owner on what was different about these new bad boys of the water.  The new technology deploys a reverse gate as soon as you pull the brake, just like a motorcycle.  Amazing.  Check out the new video here.

Next I hopped over to Nor Cal MasterCraft in Pleasanton, (yeah, I know they have a location attached to Sunrise Boat Storage in Rancho Cordova, but it didn’t occur to me at the time).  I hung out with Rich to have a good look at the new X-Star from MasterCraft.

This bad boat is the Camaro of watersports, the preferred boat of professional wakeboarders and flat out a beast on the water.  Check out the videos here:

For a more discerning taste in boats, I dropped in say hi to my friend, Chris at San Ramon Boat Center to play around on the new Cobalts and Reinells.  You know these boats cost a pretty penny, but seriously, wow.  These boats are absolutely amazing and simply belong on the water.  All the time.  Don’t go home, don’t go to work, just live on this boat.  I looked at the new 25′,  fully-customizable, A25.

Great for all things on the water, this boat has an optional hydraulic swim platform that looks like an underwater stair case.  You could get lost with all the options these boats allow, check it out here:

I of course looked at great accessories for all these great rigs, so I dropped in to West Marine in Sacramento to see the latest and greatest.  The new Raymarine C90 Widescreen Navigation peaked my interest, so I took a closer look.

The screen images on the C90 are absolutely breathtaking, a hybrid radar, fishfinder, weather reporter and video display make this tool a must-have for an experience fisherman. Check it out:
